Lakes Regional Park - A Quiet Escape

Group of bikers on bridge

Lakes Regional Park is nearly 300 acres and is located in southern Fort Myers. Close to the hustle and bustle, this public park is a perfect place to enjoy an active afternoon. The park is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail, so it’s not uncommon to spot countless species of native and migratory birds. Lakes Regional Park features miles of running, walking, and riding trails along the fresh water lakes. The park can be fun for the whole family as it has playgrounds, large open fields for outdoor activities, and a variety of small gardens available to all. It also features a miniature railway that takes guests on a 15 minute ride. During the trip, guests can enjoy a ride mimicked to that of the Seaboard Air Line Railroads, a former branch to Punta Rassa which ran through the property from the 1920's till the early 1950's. It’s complete with a full size locomotive engine and even has a caboose on display!

On any given day you may find the park busy with activity but due to its great layout and general size it never seems crowded. Bike rentals are available to enjoy the paved and well-marked trails that lumber around the lakes and through the gardens. If you’re interested in getting on the water, hop in a canoe or paddle boat to get a closer look at the wading birds. You might even see an egret, a white ibis, an anhinga, or even a woodland stork!

Bring the bikes, bring the kids, pack a lunch and spend the whole day exploring this gem.
