You may not know it, but Fort Myers is home to a thriving theater scene, with several theater companies operating in the area. Each has its own spin on live theater and they’re all worth checking out if you’re a theater buff or just a casual fan.

The Florida Repertory Theatre in downtown Fort Myers is no stranger to notoriety. It has been named "Best Performing Arts Group" several times by Gulfshore Life Magazine and Florida Weekly; called “One of America’s top repertory companies” by the Wall Street Journal; and its work has been in The New York Times and covered in American Theatre Magazine. It has earned all of these accolades by putting on first-rate productions of classic plays and musicals out of its gorgeous theater, built in 1908. If you have any desire to go to a stage show, start here.

The Laboratory Theater of Florida presents artistic stage works and classic plays that maintain their original artistic integrity and complexity yet remain accessible and relatable to a wide audience. Theatergoers shouldn’t be intimidated if they’ve never heard of some of titles being performed – each show is sure to be enjoyable.

Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers is celebrating its 23rd season of entertaining guests over dinner and drinks. It puts on classic productions and adaptations in its main theater and shows smaller, more intimate productions in its side theater, the Off Broadway Palm. In addition to regular dinner theater, it also presents children productions over lunch.

Theatre Conspiracy is non-profit theater in its 22nd season. It’s committed to providing thought-provoking and interesting entertainment for Fort Myers, but just because their productions are occasionally more cerebral doesn’t mean they aren’t entertaining. Plays here will still range from tragic to comedic.
