The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel win prestigious platinum honor, three other awards at 57th annual Adrian international awards competition

LEE COUNTY, FL –The Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau (VCB) received several Adrian Awards, including the coveted platinum award last night. The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) honored the VCB’s accomplishments at an awards gala at the New York Marriott Marquis.

The annual competition – hosted by HSMAI professionals from all segments of travel, hospitality and tourism – drew nearly 1,200 entries from around the world.

Winners were recognized at the largest and most prestigious travel marketing competition in the world. The VCB, in partnership with its agency, MMGY Global, earned a platinum award in public relations, a gold award for social media, a gold for digital marketing and a silver award for advertising.

The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel earned the prestigious platinum honor for generating coverage of the USS Mohawk. Last year, the sinking of the USS Mohawk CGC battleship created national awareness of the destination and its dive offerings. The VCB worked with Reefmakers LLC and photographer Andreas Franke to create an underwater attraction with Franke’s artwork. The other award winners included trendsetting e-newsletters, an innovative Google Glass social media campaign and advertising efforts to help travelers “find their island.”

“Earning four awards – including a platinum award – in this competitive arena acknowledges our team’s tremendous success and underscores the impressive results we deliver for our destination,” said Tamara Pigott, VCB executive director.

Judges of this year’s competition noted the prevalence of integrated campaigns with shareable and highly engaging social, digital components.

“Our judges were highly impressed by many of this year’s entrants and made special note of the overall trend of fully integrated campaigns that span across multiple channels,” said Fran Brasseux, executive vice president of HSMAI. “Marketing campaigns now rarely exist in silos with the proliferation in the array of channels available. This upsurge has only benefited the industry as a whole and is reflected in the excellent strategy and creativity exhibited by this year’s award winners.”
