The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, located at 3075 Sanibel Captiva Road on Sanibel, offers fascinating educational programming for all ages! The Great Hall offers more than 30 permanent exhibits which offer insights into shells' vital role in history, culture, art, design, and medicine. Learn about our local mollusks that make the beautiful shells you can find on the beach during our daily Tank Talks at 11am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm, and 4pm. Use your imagination and artistic talents making souvenir treasures during daily Shell Crafts from 12pm-3pm (Shell Jewelry 1-2:30pm on Wednesdays). Included with Museum admission and no reservations required. Schedule subject to change.
The Museum also offers daily Beach Walks led by their shell experts who are fun, knowledgeable, and passionate about protecting our oceans' biodiversity! The one-hour beach walk departs at 9am from the Island Inn lobby on Sanibel at 3111 W Gulf Drive. Space is limited and reservations are required at ShellMuseum.org or 239.395.2233.
