Green Properties Several meeting properties on The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel have reached Florida Green Lodging status. The Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa is the latest meeting resort on The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel to join the Florida Green Lodging Program. The Pink Shell reaches Florida Green Lodging status, joining the Two-Palm Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs and two One-Palm properties in Fort Myers: the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa. The Green Lodging designation is given by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to encourage the conservation of the state's natural resources through cost-saving "green" practices. To achieve the One Palm designation, the Pink Shell had to complete core activities representing a minimum set of best management practices in the areas of communication, water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and clean air. In addition, it obtained support from top management, formed an active multi-disciplinary "Green Team" and operates in compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. A Two Palm designation certifies that a facility has increased its energy conservation and pollution prevention measures since its One Palm certification. From the time of its initial certification in March 2004, the Hyatt has reduced its water consumption by 28 percent, energy usage by almost 2 percent and minimized waste disposal by almost 3 percent. The resort utilizes a linen reuse program and energy efficient laundry facility, and it has invested in the latest technologies for ice storage and air controls, heat recovery systems and energy management meters.
